Welcome to the Z-list
History
The Z-list was originally started by Mack Collier as a way of challenging two concepts -- the A-list of bloggers and the Technorati approach to ranking authority. The focus at first was on marketing blogs.
Starting with only five blogs, Mack encouraged other bloggers to take this list, add five of their own favourite blogs that don't receive a lot of "link love", and then publish it on their sites. This saw many blogs with great content but small readerships begin to make an impact on the marketing community's blogs.
In January 2007, the Z-list seemed to quieten down, but by then many of the sites on the list had rocketed up the Technorati rankings. But in early February 2007, the Z-list was picked up by another category of bloggers and the fun started again. By now the Z-list contained well over 150 sites and covered a number of category areas, it was decided by Becky Carroll, Sharon Sarmiento and Gavin Heaton to embark upon the task of categorising the list and providing short descriptions of each of the blogs listed.
How to put the Z-list on your blog
To put the Z-list onto your blog:
- Click and drag from the top of the table to the bottom.
- Copy it to your clipboard (Ctrl + C) on a PC
- Create a new blog entry
- Paste (Ctrl + V) it into the body of your post
