Images from around the web are showing the HTC Dream AKA the T-Mobile G1 in all its bendy, screen-sliding glory. This Sidekick-like phone has a pop up screen, full QWERTY keyboard, and none of the buckets of suck that characterize Windows Mobile phones. Android is still fairly nascent so I worry that the application environment will be limited on launch but an open, powerful platform backed by a major, web-focused corporation is better than a useless accretion of outdated functions owned by a Borg-like conglomerate or an OS created by a gnomic, arbitrarily pissy design company in my book. And then there’s Symbian…
That said, expect to see the G1 hit T-Mobile stores next month. Here’s hoping.

Cant wait till I get hold of one….
looks like the Sony PSP-3
It’s all about the chin!!
This is a mobile first, and a web browser second (or the other way round) - turn the device 90 degrees, tilted roller ball - fits nicely on the thumb and you’re off - no dirty marks on the screen.
PS great for gaming?
PPS the logo on the back - let me suggest Google pay HTC $50 a handset for the PR - direct subsidy to get the google phone in the market cheap.
For a little more thought see

Is T-Mobile trying what AT&T did with iPhone. Being the 1st to be on scene… good strategy.
Well, that’s you top of the search rankings for “gnomic, arbitrarily pissy design company”.
Kudos!
John.. you should say what you really feel
And I hope it comes to India and whacks the hell out of the gnomic, arbitrarily pissy design company which sells its 16gb model for Rs.35,000 here…thats like $875!!!! don’t even bother to do a purchasing power parity comparison…its unreal…
Think T-Mobile’s alleged iTunes-lookalike app store will coincide with the launch of this phone? The two go well together.
If it were on Verizon or Sprint, I might consider switching from my iPhone. T-Mobile’s coverage isn’t any better than AT&Ts.
the only reason I don’t buy an iphone is because the virtual keyboard, I can’t imagine myself pressing flat keys without the feeling of real keys.
I’ll wait for my Andriod, meanwhile I’ll stick to my Sony Ericsson dumbphone.
just to round out the trifecta: “android” seems a more than appropriate name for an operating system from an cultlike group of engineers who never see the light of day and who haven’t the faintest idea of what and emotionally-responsive user interface for actual human beings should look like.
Looks thick. Why is it so thick?
I think the tilt of the chin distorts the thickness of the phone when looking at it from its end. It could makes its owners very popular with the ladies - what’s that bulge in your pocket

Wow the second Apple bashing in two weeks from Techcrunch… someone drank a serious dose of unbias this month.
I’m in love with TC all over again. Muuwahhh!
Should be interesting. The days are getting closer and the people have spent enough time waiting. Put it in the consumers hand first, then we’ll see if it’s worth the hype.
Here’s more on the size of the HTC Dream:

Maybe Google should have Googled “cellular market share”.
If they did, Google would have found out that T-Mobile only has 11% market share in the United States.
Apple and RIMM already won the smartphone wars. Nobody will care about Android.
Really? an open platform system which will flourish with applications because no gross restrictions placed on the phone like Apple, will do fairly well.
Developers love google and programming on a linux platform such an android is much better than using an inferior darwin kernel :).
T-Mobile is still the second largest GSM network in the United States of America, following AT&T/Cingular.
stopp hating because u cant get a g1 u looser
REMINDER: Unlike the iPhone, no one will be camping out overnight for this POS phone.
The location services on the iPhone are really nice. I like being able to open the Yelp application and find the closest restaurants from wherever I am, so I’m a bit disappointed that the G1 doesn’t include a GPS chip.
That said, bring on more Android hardware! Only good things can come out of this.
Well, John, in my book, your book ain’t worth jack. Oh, and nice spelling — next time try proofreading your content before posting.
Well, I’m definitely curious. My contract is up at the end of October, and I just learned about T-Mobile’s wifi Hotspot coverage, so I’m intriguied, but I also need to make sure I have a phone that does all I need it to do.
For those of us who don’t function well on the flat surface of the iPhone, we’re excited for more options.
Cheers to competition in the marketplace!
I’ve had a sidekick forever and love it for the keyboard - can type like a maniac on it. I can’t type for sh*t on the iphone. That keyboard may be enough to make me stay…. I don’t think that mobile UI designers think about women with fingernails!
For whatever reason I’ve never lived in an area where T-mobile had good service, so I won’t be looking too much into their new products. Hopefully someday they will come to me. For now, it’s an iPhone.

Microsoft isn’t a Borg-like conglomerate; Steve Ballmer has character!
OMG I thought Erick was bad. John, are you also on GOOG’s payroll? Jes man, how much did they pay you the write this BS?
This phone looks like a bad dream of 2002 Windows Mobile with the functionality of a v0.1 iPhone. Except for geeks who use tweeter, who would conceiveably want to buy such a cr@p device?
The G-phone is simpy the GeekPhone. Wake up.
You’re just mad because AT&T got you for the next 2 years and you don’t want to pay the early termination fee. Go right ahead keep paying them high AT&T prices.
I really, really look forward to the Android G1 because I want a real QWERT keyboard that my fingers can feel. iPhone’s make believe keyboard is something that has not reached my comfort zone. Yep, I’m ready for the G1! Wish I could get a hold of them today. I’ll buy 4 right away… one for each of my family. See me enjoy my new Android phone!

Must be nice to change this boring iPhone to something else better. Not only that, I didn’t expect it to crash since it is an Apple product and design, but lo and behold mine crashes like crazy. I will definitely be buying the new G1 cell phone. See yah!
Yeah! The new G1 seems to be so good mainly because it’ll be so much easier to use Google services and it’s always good to have competition - even for an iPhone.
Whom ever made the g1 fone amma suck there dick tell the meat come off
Inside news:
I have been using the G1 all day today. It is a great phone! Already a bunch of cool apps such as a Barcode scanner and a ricther scale program! Has a great screen plus a 3MP camera! This is honestly a pretty cool phone! Has a trackball too which is cool since I now use a BlackBerry it is nice to have a similiar feature.
my G1 is on backorder
im soooooo anxious.
