Still the best I have found
Its amazing this is still the best I have found(its been around 4ever). I go to it ALL the time to quickly and easily fix-up photos. Just the right amount of editing tools, crop, color and brightness/contrast. I do use another program to re-size though. PhotoFiltre is awesome. Thanks a bunch.

Top of the picks
Just as Gusimio said, further down, I have both PhotoFiltre and Photoscape installed as there are a couple of things I can do in Photoscape that I can't do so easily or at all in Photofiltre. However Photofiltre is the one I use most. It is so fast to open and does everything so well. I first came across Photofiltre when looking for a replacement for microsoft's Photo Editor as I no longer have any version of Office installed. The key thing I was looking for was the "Paste as New Image" feature and Photofiltre is the only program I have found that has it.

Filtered...
Ok, first of all, for FREE, not many photo or graphic utilities aside from Gimp come close to the quality of PF. I have used PF for a long time, however, mainly for photo touch ups and such or outlining. Not to mention you can download all sorts of plugins for this that make quick work out of any photo, saving time and effort. It's an excellent app and you CAN'T go wrong having this, you simply can't. I can't stress enough how excellent this is for FREE especially!

Basic photo editing
Kudos to the author of this software program! I needed a basic photo/scan image editing program and PhotoFiltre appears to be the ticket. For the function I need a editing program to do, Photoshop (and other commercial equiv) was overkill and too pricey. So TY to PhotoFiltre again. I look forward to using it for years on all my photo editing/file size projects! I also love the "price"!!

My fav ; )
It never ceases to amaze me how some people can complain at all about something they get for nothing. This is an awesome program, I've used it for quite some time, way back on Win98, WinXP, and now using it on Vista. It's my favourite photo editor and it's easy to use. AND IT'S FREE.

Well, comparing to Photoshop the main thing i miss are layers... But i use this as a fast and FREE alternative to paint, so it does the job very well. Doesn't use more then 5 MB of ram here.

One of the two best freebies
Photofiltre and Photoscape are in a virtual tie for best free photo editors; however, each program does offer slightly different options in the area of "effects", so I have installed both and "use one or the other" as needed. You really can't beat this combination so get both!

Just 2 points of complaint.
You must compare this prog to the big boy progs you normally use, but good little alternative for most simple run of the mill jobs. 2 complaints, mouse wheel for magnification of image backwards to most other progs. Clone tool is combination of mouse and keyboard. R and L mouse click would be good. Give it a try, worth the effort.

Superior
My digital cameras have their own software, so i don't see this program as lacking just because it doesn't interface with my cameras. I have Photoshop and rarely use it because of it's antiquated backward design, so i use Photodeluxe to perform my edits quickly with no learning curve when Irfanview won't do (which is rare since it supports Photoshop plugs). For some reason or the other though, both versions i have of Photodeluxe do not work anymore. Photofiltre to the rescue! it would be a total 5 star program if it supported layers, but since it doesn't, i have to give it a 4. still, it is a top-notch program that does what it says it does.

Darn near perfect
About all that is missing from this software is the ability to download pics from your digital camera. (Maybe I am missing something here, but I don't think so.) If this software could download your pics from the major camera manufacturers available today (Kodak, Canon, etc.) this FREE software would be nearly PERFECT! I haven't found anything, as an amateur digital photographer, that this software WON'T do. In time (ha-ha), maybe I will become more sophisticated than PhotoFiltre but I doubt it. Until PhotoFiltre becomes dumber than I am - I recommend it to anyone and everyone who wants to "play" with, improve or change their digital photos. For the price - I don't believe you can go wrong, my fellow picture-snappers! Get it - use it - enjoy it and share the results!!

A work of art...this one.
This has already made my life so much easier. I create graphics for my web site. I use to have to jump between several programs to accomplish what I can on this one program. I must say however that the quality is perhaps not quite the quality of some others. This is luckily an almost unnoticeable difference. The pure convenience of this program makes up for this. I find myself using this little piece of art maybe 80% of the time. Get it. You'll love it. You'll thank the authors and Snapfiles for it!

This rocks!
Remember people filter, don't expect it to have the kind of options you see on a a converter or editor. Think of it as a mega 101types filter program. It also will reduce the colors (size) of your picture when your finish saving it. Nice little bonus! no more messing around in crappy gifworks for me. This is a fun, slim, easy to use multi featured program. It's not often I love a program this much! Give it a try.

Wonderful!
With the help of this very professional application I do not need Adobe Photoshop to retouch my photos. Extremely efficient, compact, and sufficient for even very sophisticated amateur retouches. And by amateur I mean those whose photos are worth being called Art (for your information, the best photographers in the world are not professional photographers, but amateurs). It starts very quickly since it is very light weight, and it handle the work smoothly. I love this application.

I adore the interface
For an interface hag like me, I found this one extremely clean and elegant. The tools are simple and basic, but perfectly fulfilling for digital photographers. I say download this small, fast-loading, fast-running program if you're looking for effects and basic photo editing. It's so clean and easy to learn, no matter how computer-illiterate you think you are! But if you're a digital artist/painter and graphics designer like me, look elsewhere for layers and other advanced tools.

Saved 100s
My name is max and i have just left school. I want to be a photographer but i know how much this costs. It would be a bout 600 for the camera and about 200 for a program like this. I have a normal digital camera what cost 100 and i thought i really want a program so i downloaded this one but i thought it was going to be rubbish because it was free. I tried it out and i will say i will never have to buy a expensive camera or program because this one gives off the quality and effects that i have always wanted. Now when i take pics of my band members on my camera and add effects using this program people think that i hired out a photographer to do them for me. I would recommend this to anyone and i will. Please people save 100s of pounds and download this product for free.

Excellent product ?
If Photo Filtre were commercial software it would be a very good product and way ahead of many of its rivals. However as its freeware I'd say that makes it an excellent product. The Photo Filtre Interface, Features and Ease of Use are all excellent. In fact I found that getting the hang of using it far easier than any of its rivals that I've tried.

Good after learning the get-arounds.
Very good for repainting flight simming textures, but the DX1/DX3 conversion has it offsetting the texture if one wants to redo an edit. After re-converting back to a 24 bit BMP, one needs to load the bmp into paint and resave for it to accept the re-converted bmp. One thing for sure though, once you learn it's odd little get-arounds, it's surprising what you can do with it. It shines the best as a resizer and gif converter with transparencies for web page use. It doesn't save a common jpg as small as paint does, resaving the "its" results from paint reduces pic size for webpages to the better. Thanks to the author for a functional picture editor that can be used for a little more than it was meant to do.

Not as good as it seems.
It lacks two of the most useful things that makes other programs so much better; Layers and masks. It also LACKS color management, clipping layers, histograms, curves, channels, LAB, CMYK, brush engine, adj. layers, layer styles, etc. Btw, did I forget to mention that it also lacks vectors Oh, and as for retouching tools; it lacks tools like Clone, Dodge, Burn, Healing Brush, Patch Tool or even things that are very useful when you design images for the web like slicing, GIF animation, rules, guides, advanced save for web options, you name it. It's not a bad program, better than Windows paint, but nowhere near as good as PhotoImpact, Gimp, Paintshop Pro, PhotoPaint, etc. Those who even think its better than Photoshop; oh well, there are still people who believe Santa does exist. Photofiltre is not bad, but not good either. Its free? Serif PhotoPlus 6 is free too, but at least that one supports layers.

With this program the learning curve is not very steep and the results are EXCELLENT! This is without question THE BEST free (even among non-free) photo editing programs out there in regard to value and features. The download is easy, and it doesn't mess with your computer at all. I do recommend going to the parent website and downloading the tutorial/manual for general reference purposes, as well as all around tips and information about the program.

I've been searching for a good software to use as a simple photo editor - I frequent discussion forums and enjoy sharing photographs that I take. PhotoFiltre is a fabulous tool that allows me to do what I would normally have to do in Photoshop - and I share the sentiments of the other reviewers that this software provides most of the usual functions that you would need - resizing, cropping, adjusting colour balance / brightness & contrast, clone stamping and adding text - it's a dream! Photofiltre turned out to be much more than the name suggested and miles away from the rest of the free progs I used. It's extremely easy to do quick jobs on web images with. The interface and general setup of the program are very good, better than Photoshop and on a par with Paintshop Pro. For anyone who needs to work on low to medium quality web images.

Not for correcting photos seriously
I tried this software and i liked the editing abilities kept extremely simple, like selections, masks, frames, and the nice filters. The photo correction part was very disappointing: the auto corrections dont work well in most cases and the manual corrections are very far from the Photoshop quality. People wonder why this is free? Because its usage is limited to what the name also says: photo filters. To appreciate the nice and easy interface: the program is surely well coded.. Better than Ms Paint for sure and good for people that want to be creative in few steps, but not the panacea of the image editors

Yes better than photoshop!
PhotoShop is full of crap 99% of users will never even need or use. Colleges offer classes on it because it is so complicated and difficult! It takes a lot of time to do even the most basic of editing until you are extremely familiar with it. I believe in keeping things simple. Give me the tools I actually need and not a bunch of blah blah blah... that I might need a college class to figure out. PhotoFiltre offers everything I need to do my web design and programming. As a programmer we constantly are reminding ourselves to "keep it simple." PhotoFiltre does just that! Everything you need in a friendly and easy to use interface. I have found very little room for improvement in this amazing image editor. I still can not believe it is free! No add-ware, spy-ware, toolbars, or any of that crap either. The only question I have is "What's the catch?" :-) Thanks to the makers of PhotoFiltre for offering such a wonderful product!

If you are looking for a freeware image editor PhotoFiltre is excellent!I read a lot of reviews here and decided to try this program first.I'm glad that I did!Anybody can figure out how to use this program with a little trial and error. You can easily undo changes. There are so many things you can do with an image using this program. There are help files with the program, but I didn't really need them with the way PhotoFiltre is setup. PhotoFiltre is a "keeper".

Works on flash drive!
I found this to be an incredible photo editor despite its small size. The best feature however was that when I copied the program folder over to my USB flash drive and ran it from there - it worked! I tried it on another PC and it worked perfectly from the E: drive. Now I can take it with me anywhere and use it on any Windows PC.

Excellent application - highly recommended
After evaluating more than four dozen editors, this is one of three photo editors I recommend to photography students, regardless of price.

Better than photoshop?
O.K. Let's be realistic. PhotoFiltre is better than Adobe Photoshop? That's ridiculous but you can't really compare them anyway. I mean $700.00 to $0.00 is a hell of a price range to compare products in. I use Photoshop at work and school but at home I use PhotoFiltre and it's great. I downloaded GIMP but just getting through the installation readme was a hassle so I haven't even unzipped it yet and probably won't. I can't imagine any other free app being capable of more than PhotoFiltre is. The only thing that really hangs me up from time to time is the absence of layers, but if it means saving a buttload of cash I can deal with it. Oh, and a lot of the plug-ins and support docs are only in French. That kind of sucks but now I'm just being picky. PhotoFiltre is better than any cheap, free or bundled-with-hardware applications I've used and I'd definitely recommend it to the casual user. (Or really poor professional. :)

Tremendous power for photo editor
PhotoFiltre is user friendly, full-featured, and is freeware: it's perfect! I got into its features by trial and error, and became proficient very quickly. A must-try before resorting to shareware!

Outstanding
This is a wonderful program for me. I can do stuff with my photos without having to read the help file or get involved in a little interactive workshop to aquaint myself with techniques and options. This is just a outstanding quality program.

At last, a picture editor written just for me
FxFoto does well enough as a photo fixer. PhotoFiltre, especially when the freely available plug-ins are installed, is just under a million times better. It doesn't assume you are a dummy, but has a easily understood interface. It also is very free without the annoyware reminders all over FxFoto.

Excellent photo editor ... and it is free!!
I can't praise this freeware program enough. If you want quick, slick photo editing don't look any further. Although PhotoFiltre does not feature layering it will more than suffice for the average user. The filter effects are amazing and explorer feature makes it easy to find and load a folder full of photos. All this and less that 2MB in size! This person must be a programmer who really rocks!
