Sara's Wish Foundation's dream of a portable seatbelt may become a reality! Shortly after the death of their daughter Sara in a bus accident in India, Anne Schewe, with the support of her husband Charles, began dreaming of inventing a portable seatbelt for travelers to take with them to use on buses and other vehicles not equipped with seatbelts.  Thanks to some young engineers at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst, this dream may come true.

SARA'S WISH FOUNDATION was established to perpetuate the memory of Sara Christie Schewe. In 1996, Sara, a beautiful and loving young woman, was killed in a fatal bus crash in India along with three classmates while participating in the University of Pittsburgh's Semester at Sea Program.  Sara's Wish Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Safe And Rewarding Adventures for students, emerged out of this Semester at Sea tragedy.

SARA'S WISH FOUNDATION MISSION

We want to protect our children from unnecessary danger and support them as they pursue their dreams and adventures through:

  1. International Travel Safety Initiatives: Bringing greater awareness to improving safety in international transportation and travel, especially in student study abroad programs, and;
  2. Scholarships: Perpetuating Sara's ideals by creating opportunities for experiences for other students who share Sara's zest for life, love of adventure, and zeal to excel.

Help us promote safety standards for student travel programs and provide financial assistance for young women who want to pursue international travel experiences in the areas of education, health care, or public service.  These women will help sustain Sara's living spirit.
