Our mantra when we designed our webmail user interface was 'fast, simple, elegant.' But that doesn't mean it isn't also powerful. We've built out an interface that satisfies the increasingly demanding webmail user.
The interface can be branded with our easy-to-use web-based branding tool, or our Professional Services team can work with you to develop an even more customized look and feel for your webmail experience.
As a white label provider of Internet services, OpenSRS realizes that giving you control of the webmail branding is an important part of your business. We've made sure that to your customers, you are the face of your webmail.
Over the past few years, the threat to email systems in the form of spam, viruses and phishing attacks has increased dramatically. The volume of spam email is immense — as much as 90% of all email, according to some estimates.
Controlling spam and doing it well is something that users have come to expect. We've brought together some of the best names in the business, combined with our own dedicated abuse team, to offer effective anti-spam and anti-virus protection inside OpenSRS Email Service. As you would expect, complete anti-spam and anti-virus filtering is included standard with every mailbox.
Additionally, resellers who wish to continue managing and operating their own email infrastructure can choose to provision users on the OpenSRS Email Service as "filtering only" accounts. This option provides the same high quality anti-spam filtering our fully-hosted mailboxes use, but without the associated storage and access. After filtering, email is directed to the reseller's own email servers for delivery. Users are provided with a web-based spam quarantine where they can review and manage spam, including safe and blocked sender lists.
There's more to dealing with abuse than filtering out spam and viruses. OpenSRS has a dedicated Abuse team that monitors system logs, and abuse-related activity across our services. The Abuse team actively disables offending spammers and phishers based on evidence found in monitoring systems as well as complaints reported to our Support team.
OpenSRS is also involved in industry standards groups like MAAWG (Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group) to learn what others in the industry are doing to control spam and related abuse and so we can share our own experiences.
Our experience managing millions of domains gives us a leg up when it comes to abuse. We deal with abuse situations everyday and we have experience in understanding and eliminating abuse across our systems.
OpenSRS offers two methods to create and maintain email accounts:
The Mail Administration Center (MAC) is a web-based interface for administering OpenSRS hosted email domains.
The MAC gives customers complete control over their domains, workgroups, mailboxes, administrators, and group aliases. If the customer's domain has relatively few mailboxes, the MAC may be the only administration tool that they will need. For larger domains it is a powerful tool for support staff to perform basic maintenance functions, such as password resets.
The Account Provisioning Protocol (APP) is an API protocol that enables real-time automated provisioning of the OpenSRS Email Service via a secure Internet connection. The APP interface automates the creation and management of domains and mailboxes on the OpenSRS Email Service.
Common uses of the APP include: developing custom sign-up pages, or tying into an existing provisioning architecture, where the OpenSRS provisioning database mirrors all provisioning events in real time.
If customers wish to collect demographic data during the webmail sign-up and registration process, they may use the APP to create a custom sign-up page that will interact with OpenSRS databases.
Use of the APP requires custom development. Documentation, including source code examples in Perl, are available. If customers require further programming assistance, OpenSRS Professional Services is available to assist. A detailed developer's guide for the APP is provided.
The OpenSRS Email Service platform is high performance. But what gives it the edge? Three basic premises guided us as we designed and built it.
Our email service runs on virtual servers. This allows for ease of management in upgrading the environment's components, and in adding additional capacity. Outages are minimized even in the case of unexpected hardware failures. In the case of planned hardware downtime, the virtual servers can usually be transparently relocated to different physical hardware with no service interruption.
Our email service has access to multiple backbone networks with continuous monitoring.
