Rat-a-Tat Cat
Gamewright, $9, amazon.com This is a charming math-themed card game of luck and strategy. The goal? To wind up with the fewest points or rats; cat cards are the coveted ones. The trick lies in remembering the cards you have looked at. The mystery lies in the cards you can't look at (unless you draw a "peek"). And the malice lurks in the swap card that lets you stick others with a rat. Take that! During testing, kids blithely beat grown-ups and older siblings. They got a great workout in addition and subtraction. And they also fine-tuned their poker faces. We know parents so hooked on Rat-a-Tat Cat, they've played it after the kids were put to bed. Not sure if that's a plus or a minus. Manufacturer recommended ages: 6 and up. — April/May 2007 By Melanie Trnka
