Fonality buys into Asterisk community

Fonality on Wednesday said that it has acquired trixbox, an online community around open-source voice over IP software Asterisk.

Fonality, which sells IP-based telephony systems, said that it will keep the trixbox software open source and commit additional resources to developing it.

Trixbox is designed as a PBX system for small and medium size business, which can be downloaded as integrated package with Asterix, Linux, SugarCRM, MySQL and FreePBX.

Digium, a company which offers support around the Asterisk software, recently received $13.2 million in funding.
