Woman's body found in Logan Canyon
Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Nov 10, 2008
Police are investigating the identity of, and what happened to, a woman whose partially decomposed remains were discovered in Logan Canyon Saturday.
Cache County Sheriff's Lt. Matt Bilodeau said Sunday that investigators are combing the scene where the body was discovered on U.S. Forest Service land in the Birch Glen area off U.S. 89 in Logan Canyon.
A fisherman discovered the body around 3 p.m. Saturday while hiking to a fishing spot on the Logan River.
Bilodeau said the woman appeared to have been in her 20s, had black hair and well-manicured nails. Her remains have been transferred to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy, but Biladeau would not comment on whether the body showed any obvious signs of trauma.
Bilodeau said his agency is reviewing missing-person reports for Utah, Wyoming and Idaho, but noted that U.S. 89 through Logan Canyon is well-traveled and the woman could be from just about anywhere.
A Utah state forensic investigation team is currently at the scene, in additionn to Cache County Sheriff's deputies and search and rescue personnel.
