GOSDEN BAGS THE GLORY

Sunday Mirror,  Oct 5, 2008  by BILL KNIGHT

WHITE-HOT trainer John Gosden kept his power packed run going in double style at Newmarket yesterday, but this time he gave punters a pair of nasty knockout blows.

Donativum and Tazeez handed "Johnny G" an amazing 883-1 double on his local track, hard on the heels of Ascot Group One wins with Raven's Pass and Rainbow View the previous weekend.

Gosden had intended to run three in the totesport.com Cambridgeshire, but the rains came too late to soften the going and he relied on just Tazeez as seven horses dropped out at the last minute.

Richard Hills switched to the winner and Gosden was full of praise for the often criticised jockey who has another big date with Youmzain in today's Arc.

"Tazeez might be a four-year-old, but he is really lacking in self confidence and Richard gave him plenty today," declared Gosden.

"It was a great ride and to win this race three times is a dream come true for me," he added.

Tazeez had plenty on his plate to overhaul 66-1 shot Nanton who was pushed into a clear lead by Kelly Harrison a quarter mile from home, but the winning post came just in time for the 25-1 chance.

"I feel a bit sorry for Martin Dwyer who was going to ride Tazeez, but at least he got another big win on the day on Donativum," said Hills.
