N.Y. Tower Tops Out Concrete Core

NJBIZ,  Oct 27, 2008  by Lee, Evelyn

SJP Properties, a Parsippany-based real estate developer, announced last week that the 600-foot high concrete core at 11 Times Square the company's 40-story, 1.1 -millionsquare-foot office and retail tower - is topped out and completed ahead of schedule. The property, which is the largest speculative building under construction in midtown Manhattan, is on track to be ready for tenant occupancy in 2010, according to SJP.

The skyscraper is the first building in New York to have the concrete core completed prior to the steel frame, which is expected to be topped out in early November, the company says. The concrete core allows the tower to be constructed with fewer interior columns - which will provide more flexible floor layouts - and also reinforces safety by enclosing all of the building's critical elements, such as stairways, elevators and the command center, SJP says. - Evelyn Lee
